Yes, if you've not realised all ready its Crazylands 4th Birthday and you better not forget it! The talker has changed quiet a lot over the last 4 years, both in terms of the people and the actual workings of the talker, all of which has been a result of different peoples support and hard work - so a big thanks go out to everyone that have been part of this. In the future we'll be seeing more changes which will take CL into the new millennium; changes that will add new and wondrous features and interfaces. Thanks for your ideas on '69 reasons' - keep them coming and we'll make sure we keep the 69-queen busy this year! Check out the article below for more information. * Easter Spodmeet - Toronto! * Big news! As a few of you might know there's a big spodmeet taking place Toronto, Canada around easter time. Specifically, the weekend of April Friday 9th until Sunday 11th. It should be a pretty cool event with lots of spods from all over the world! These will commence next month where they left off in issue 9. --- * Memories *--- Quite a few things have happened in our four years, so here's a few memories from some residents of CrazyLands... Nexus remembers... o Skid and Nexus making up holiday bops at 3am. o The CL night shift with Tiger. o Orangey-Beard, kdcol, and toybox... o Wednesday night after-Darby's gatherings. o New Spodlist! #1 spod has over 20 days! o Naming 80's tunes by lyrics. o zettl's snow-spam! Skid remembers... o When Skid, Caeli, and WhiteCobra spent an afternoon racing tricycles across the hub followed by painting the walls and eating crayons, and of course, digging a pool. [The pool!!! - Ed] o When Mahi crashed the talker (oh wait, that was yesterday). o When the only people logged in were from CCC. [Or Essex! - Ed] o Swiff and Skid in bed together (enough said). o Orangy-beard! o When his title contained the word "newbie". o Snowman and Skid pretending to be with the FCC and scaring away a newbie. o Ostrich with a chain saw (enough said) o Where's the start button? Nevyn remembers... o When there was no such this as $If and $While twinkles because everyone thought they'd be too hard and scary to do... oops. Mahiswaradas remembers... o When the talker moved off toybox, and he was afraid he'd never find us again! Swiff remembers... o Everything. The whole lot. Gees, I need a life. Even though this has been a birthday special, it's not too late to send in your stories or memories from CrazyLands (to the usual address) and we'll see about gathering enough for another 'Memories' article soon! --- * 69 Reasons (Birthday Special) * --- 69 ways to celebrate CL's 4th birthday: 1. Sing "Happy Birthday" at the top of your lungs so it totally annoys your family or roommates. 2. Sing "Happy Birthday" in as many languages as you can think of that people speak on CL just to be politically correct. [Oi! Rules! - Ed] 3. Sing "How old are you now?" and then hit your forehead for forgetting that CL is 4. 4. Eat a slice of birthday cake. 5. Eat the whole cake since you can't share it with spods across the pond. 6. Buy the admin a present for CL's birthday. 7. Buy the SU's a present for CL's birthday. 8. Buy each and every CL ressie a present for CL's birthday. 9. Go broke buying presents. 10. Since you are broke from buying presents, make presents for CL's birthday. 11. Send a virtual email birthday card to each and every ressie. :) 12. Send CL a dozen roses. (Make sure you picked them yourself to make it even more special) 13. Spend the whole day spodding on CL for 24 hours straight. 14. Spend an extra 5 hours on so that way you can be on for all of the CL birthday for the UK types or North Americans. 15. Call up a few spods and say hi on this very important day. 16. Put a classified ad in your local newspaper. 17. Take out a full page colour ad in your local newspaper. 18. Since you are broke from buying all those CL birthday presents, put an ad in the CL Newsletter since it is free. 19. Hug a spod. 20. Don't hug the hub. 21. Share imaginary Birthday cake with some spods. 22. Drive a few hours to see a CL spod you have not seen in a while. 23. Have a party at a pub with the CL spods that live in your city. 24. Have a beer with them. 25. Log onto CL after you have a beer with them and laugh at all the stupid things you say and do. 26. Make sure this pub is Darby's but that you don't have a waitress named Caroline. 27. Sing "Happy Birthday" to Splash because it is her birthday too. She is 23 now! 28. Play hockey cuz Ratters loves it. 29. Play hookey from school cuz Simba does not want to deal with children on this very important day. 30. Play hookey from school or work. (How dare anyone think you should do work on CL's Birthday!!!) 31. Buy one of those candles that sing "Happy Birthday" when you light it. 32. Buy a cake from Baskin Robbins with your favourite flavour of ice cream. 33. Wear a party hat all day and when strangers ask why you are wearing it just say. "crazylands.org 6969". 34. Recruit 2 ressies that are IRL friends of yours. 35. Recruit 5 more ressies that are net friends of yours. 36. Recruit 10 strangers. 37. With all these new recruits, get them residency and then throw a majorly huge birthday bash! 38. Get some sports caster from TSN to wish CL a happy birthday. 39. Get your parents to send you birthday cards. 40. Change your birth certificate so that way your birthday can be the same as CL's. 41. Make sure you do it legally though... 42. Throw a party in the hub. 43. Make it a pool party in that pool that Skid dug in the hub. 44. Have some ribs at the pool party. (but wash your face after) 45. Eat tuna bake! 46. It's quite a long time really. It doesn't seem like four years, until I think back to some of the things that have happened in that time. Then it seems more like four hundred years. :) Most people don't realise that CrazyLands is in fact one of the longest running talkers on the net. Of the others that were around when we started (only four or five EW talkers) there are only two or three of those still running, and since we started hundreds of others have come and gone. I think we've done quite well really. And we'll keep doing quite well. I think with the team and family atmosphere we have on CrazyLands, we'll easily keep running for another four years. Some of the things planned for the talker generally, and some of the people we have working on things, will take us into the future of Internet Communications. Quite simply, we're here to stay, just look at how well we've done staying here so far. Well done everyone, here's to another forty years. HAPPY BIRTHDAY CRAZYLANDS!!! *grin* ~Swiff --- * Osy's Travel Tips * --- This is a special birthday travel tip from our very own roving spod! *Happy Birthday to Me! * Spending your birthday away from home will be as fulfilling or depressing as you make it. Of course, unlike Christmas which most people know about even if they do not celebrate it themselves, the only people who know it is your birthday are the people whom you have told. Therefore, when you're away from home and surrounded by strangers, you have the choice and the control of whether or not it's celebrated in a big or small way. That is, of course, as long as you've sorted it out with your travel partner! :) If you are among those of us who aren't so excited about the prospect of getting older, and don't want any fuss made over you, keep the fact to yourself. I would suggest treating yourself to a nice meal somewhere. If however you are in the mood for a party, all you have to do is ask! Fellow hostellers will likely be all too happy to get a group together to go out with you, and you can experience your birthday in the style of the country in which you find yourself. This is not only great fun, but can be somewhat educational! Travellers are often looking for a good excuse for a party, and your birthday is as good a reason as any. Oh, and don't plan to get up early for the bus or the train the next day - chances are, you're not going to make it. :) Whether you are planning a quiet or a wild one, try to determine ahead of time where you're going to be on the big day, and get that information home to your family and friends. Cards mean a lot more when you haven't seen who they're from in a few months, and they'll be happy for a reason to call you. And remember - you can always go to the local Internet cafe to log on to CL and see your friends there! Regardless of the style in which you celebrate your big day, this will be a birthday you won't forget. I spent my birthday away in England with a long time friend. This was great for me, as my parents sent me a dozen roses, and Jason and I went and partied it up in Liverpool! He and I caught up on old times, and a few of my friends even sent cards to me, care of my Uncle's house. NeXuS (the best big brother ever!) was kind enough to make a CD for me of all of my friends wishing me a happy birthday! I felt remembered and missed and a little homesick, but I'll never forget my 25th, and I'll always have that CD for one of my best souveniers!
